You know that feeling when you're amazed at someone else's pics of a polish, then remember that you have that one too,
already at your house? Yeah, well, that + the frosty thermal-appropriate weather reminded me to take this one for a spin.

Don Deeva made Notorious PEE for the Rainbows & Unicorn Pee FB group. Yeah, i still hate calling the red-to-green shifty shimmer we all love "UP" but, well, one has to speak the proper lingo of any hobby. Anyway, Notorious is a royal purple to cobalt blue thermal with a light scattering of holo microflake and that 230/Fantasy Fire shimmer poured in.

When warm, this is a really pretty BRIGHT blue, and sunlight shows off the holo sparkle best (of course). When cold, there's a lovely royal purple that lets the UP show best.

The transition was a bit subtle on me, with my fingers usually being either all purple or all blue. I did get some sweet reverse-transition looks (warm blue tips with cold purple nail beds) when my winter-frozen self would reach for something in the oven.

Unfortunately, this polish has convinced me that thermal and delicate shimmers just don't play well. There's a reason that most 230-type polishes are jellies, since a polish needs to be quite sheer to allow the shifty shimmer to peek through, perhaps even more so than with other contrasting shimmer pigments. Thermal pigments, on the other hand, tend to cause a polish to dry down fairly matte - maybe they're chalky or powdery? - and I think this masks the shimmer. Notorious PEE is wicked sheer, presumably to allow both the thermal-ness and the UP-ness to work. I needed 4 coats to get to the opacity level shown here, and the below shot was the most I could get that shifty shimmer to come out and play. I can get a wink of the green flash in the bottle, but not so much on my nails.

indoor, CF lighting - note this shot is more blue than IRL - cameras get squirrely with these blue/purples. |
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars. Good lord this is a pretty color combo - blue and purple are the two fave colors for people to use 230-type toppers over - but it has me wondering if a more opaque thermal in this color range topped with a clear-base UP would wow me more in less overall coats.
Where to buy: Notorious PEE was a group exclusive, so sold for that one month and then done. Keep your eyes peeled for blog sales & destashes.
