KBShimmer Let's Slang

This week felt like something dark & vampy was called for, so I pulled KB Shimmer Let's Slang on over to the mani desk.

Let's Slang was an exclusive to last year's PolishCon that quickly sold out once people realized that the little glimmers within were the Clarins 230 type red-to-green shifty shimmer.  Thankfully, Christy was able to find more of this shifting pigment, and re-released Let's Slang along with a half a handful of other polishes with it a couple months ago.

This is a very saturated inky sapphire blue jelly, just sheer enough to let the sparkly pigment peek out.  The first coat was streaky and uneven, but much more obviously blue.  The second coat brought the base up to a really pretty sapphire just a touch lighter than the bottle, but was still a little uneven.  Three coats brought the color all the way as deep and dark as the bottle color, and was both completely even and completely opaque.

In bright sunlight (which we have had vanishingly little of around here recently, so unfortunately no sunlight pics here) or bright indoor light (above), the shimmer particles glow like embers out of the midnight blue, a very fireflies-in-the-night sort of look.

In anything lower than direct bright light, though, Let's Slang looks like a very chic midnight blue, but the shimmer becomes very subtle.  It's never quite black, the base color stays true in all but the dimmest lighting, but the shimmer really needs a good light source to make itself known.

The green flash that's my favorite part of this pigment is there at angles, just more subtle overall.

Rating:  3 out of 5 stars.  Formula here was good, but a hair thicker than I like, which may have contributed to the need for 3 coats.  The color at 2 coats was great, but some of that shimmer flash is masked when the polish gets this dark.  Not at all a flaw in the polish - I believe it was intended to be more subtle than an in-your-face bling, and the final result on me does look very much like "official" swatch pics.  I'm wondering if I thin it just the tiniest bit it will even out at 2 coats?  Also, this wore like jellies typically do for me, with even but obvious edgewear within <2 chipping.="" days="" no="" p="" though="">
Where to buy:  this is now sold out direct from KB Shimmer, but is still available from Color4Nails and possibly some other international stockists.
