A England Proserpine at the beach

Image
My sister came by for a visit last weekend (we made dinner for her birthday!) and while our chef was cooking, I was doing her nails.  She picked a England Proserpine (known and loved by me for quite some time) and a paisley design from BP-10 (also an old fave). indoor, CF lighting I liked it so much on her that I flipped it just a little and then did the same for me - this plate's paisley designs end in curlicues that look like waves, and there's some accent shells to boot.   outdoor, bright sunlight Getting back to normalcy with loved ones is the best!  ~Michelle

Baroness X Stargate

One of the man's besties has taken to acrylic paint pour art (everyone has a quarantine hobby), and was therefore fascinated when he was told that I could do that same look on my very fingertips .  I was also reminded of a great bundle sale on fluid art polishes  that had recently arrived and so needed to be tried out. indoor, bright CF lighting Baroness X keeps doing all sorts of really fascinating stuff with fluid art polishes, adding a whole lot more ingredients and unique flair than just the bubbles.  Stargate is a deeply saturated midnight blue with just a touch of holo dust thrown into the mix. window-filtered daylight To this midnight starfield, I've added Llarowe Katarina (aqua with purple shimmer), Cult My Kind of Kool Aid (mauve shimmer), and at the advice of a polisher in the BX fan group who recommended thicker stamping polishes as being great for fluid nails, Pretty Serious Presence (a white crème that's now thickened up to nearly stamping opacity)....

Emily de Molly Desert Rose

Every so often after a run of vampy or bright or flashy colors, I feel the need for a more neutral palate-cleanser type shade.  And while my workplace isn't one that expects a conservative dress code, there's still a little portion of my collection set aside for more traditionally feminine soft shades.  indoor, bright CF lighting Emily de Molly released Desert Rose (and yes, I have the Sting song on loop in my brain as I wore this and as I'm writing this) back when the FB group Hella Holo was a showcase for just one or two makers per month.   bright afternoon daylight This is a rich but soft pink that to me feels exactly like the heart of a pearlescent seashell.  The holo here is a very fine-particle sparkle of subtle rainbows around the edge of the nails. bright afternoon daylight While this is a linear holographic effect, the holo dust in here is always a supporting actor alongside the gorgeous contrast shimmer. indoor, bright CF lighting The shimmer in ...

Femme Fatale Melobasina

Image
Once more, we delve into the treasures to be found within Mount Untried... indoor, bright CF lighting Melobasina was the color of the month way back in February 2015, named for a genus of jewel-toned beetles.  Like its namesake, this one was shifty in a very organic-looking way.  outdoor, bright direct sunlight The above pic shows the full range of shift just perfectly - in some light it's black, in others it's purple, and it easily hits a deep metallic forest green, all packed with small rainbowy ultrachrome flakies. outdoor, indirect daylight The original blogger photos at the time of release showed Melobasina as a blackened green (below): outdoor, bright afternoon daylight And while it easily shifted to green at angles, this instead looked to my eye as smoky purple at least 2/3 of the time (below): outdoor, indirect daylight There's both a shifty shimmer in here, pulling this from purple to green, as well as the interplay between that shimmer and the flakies.  It...
