Every so often when I'm pondering what to wear next, something sitting on the mani table, not yet filed in the drawer/shelf it's going to be stashed in, sparkles at me so insistently that it jumps the long line of untrieds and goes right on my nails. It doesn't hurt that a black mani is getting a jump start on Halloween themed nails, so...

Femme Fatale released Circle Around the Moon as part of their Practical Magic collection just a couple of months ago. I think the mood board posted for this collection was more from the movie version, but the book is an absolute MUST read.

Circle around the Moon is a clear-based topper filled with silver holographic glitters in a wide assortment of flavors - there's stars, bars, squares, and a couple sizes of hexes, as well as teeny holo flakes.

Additionally, there's a generous helping of red-to-green aurora shimmer in here, and it's that gorgeous sort that looks very similar to a magical Clarins 230 type of topper, shifting from ruby red:

I'm showing 2 coats here over a piano-black crème. The holo flakes, smaller glitter elements, and aurora shimmers all dispersed nicely evenly without further assistance, but the larger glitter pieces did need a bit of placement/dabbing to get a few on each nail. It wasn't the level of trouble where you'd have to go fishing in the bottle to get them, but once a big square or star came up on the brush, I'd deliberately place that.

My accent nail is 2 coats of Orly Mirrorball, a chunky silver holo, with a diamond design stamped in black. There's one very light coat of Circle Around the Moon over that whole nail, with the star fished out an placed as an accent. 2 coats of topcoat gave a nice shine with minimal glitter bumps left to the touch.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars, what a delightfully fun topper! The aurora shimmer would look great over blue, purple, or black, while the holo elements pop nicely with any dark color. Black is the classic background for both, and I liked the way this came out. The usual glitter scrubbing effort is required to get all these shapes off, no surprises there, but sometimes you just gotta sparkle.
Where to buy:
direct from Femme Fatale, or look to see if one of her stockists is still carrying this topper.
