Heather's Hues The Deepest Kind of Love

For my second round of blues, I switched up to a bright, saturated true-blue, with Heather's Hues The Deepest Kind of Love.

March's Polish Pick-Up theme was books, and this one takes its inspiration from 'Where the Red Fern Grows,' which as a life-long animal lover and book nerd I'm sheepishly admitting that I've never read.

Deepest is a gorgeous cobalt blue jelly filled with green iridescent flakes of both standard flakie & microflake sizes.  I think there's also a shimmer in there that's somewhat duochromatic - there's a very obvious purple shift in the bottle, but the below pic is as close as I ever came to seeing it on the nail.

Blue polishes are often described as having a sulphuric odor to them, which I rarely notice - this one has a subtle whiff, but nowhere near enough to be off-putting

As with most jellies, the first coat went on a bit streaky.  The second built things up nicely, and I hit decent opacity and the true bottle color at the third.  My standard jelly technique is to paint a single very thin coat, then a thicker second, then complete clean-up to give those first two time to dry before coming back in with a thin final third coat.  This waiting for each layer to be dry prevents any pulling up of the earlier layers the the subsequent ones, and IMHO gives a more even, smooth look to jellies.

Deepest reminded me utterly of tropical oceans and the earth viewed from space.  The aquatic blue studded with green flecks would make an ideal base for any Earth day-themed nail art.  Since I have sci-fi nails on my mind, though, the earth-from-space angle had me mattifying this and adding a smiling little alien from MoYou London's Geek 13 plate using Emily de Molly green stamping polish.

UNF YESS.  Every time I matte jelly flakie polishes and get that frosted glass look, it's a forehead-slapping DUH moment as to why don't I do this more often?

Rating:  a glowy 4 out of 5 stars.  This wore amazingly well for a jelly, and was a luscious color to boot.

Where to buy:  Polish Pick-Up is a one-and-done thing... except that the month of July is going to be a "greatest hits" where each maker can bring back their fave.  So far, it looks like The Deepest Kind of Love is a front-runner, so keep your eyes out on her web store.
