China Glaze It's a Trap-eze

One of my fave makers recently came out with an absolutely adorable polish that looked like rainbow sprinkles on a white-frosted cupcake, and in an effort to rein myself in from clicking "buy" I remembered I had something in a similar vein so pulled that out to wear instead.

It's a Trap-eze was the stand out fave of China Glaze's 2012 Cirque du Soleil collection, and when I wore it the first time within a year or so of buying, it was a cool-toned white base jam-packed with jewel tone glitters (heavy on sky blue and magenta).

Remembering that the 3 coats this needed to reach complete opacity resulted in a chippy, gloopy mess of glitter, this time around I used one coat of Bee's Knees A Mantis Shrimp's Favorite Color, then one partially dabbed coat of Trap-eze.

This is not exactly the same polish as what it was on release.  It's highly probable that some of the glitters have bled into the base. Mantis Shrimp is a true neutral white, which highlighted for me by comparison  how much the base color of Trap-eze has changed.  It's now "vanilla" colored, a warm, yellow-leaning off-white.

In its current incarnation, the glitter looks a little less prominent on the nail than it used to, but the warm leaning of the base might be more forgiving to most skin tones.  Worn this way in a single coat over a layer of white, it behaved very nicely.  I had zero issues with glitter spreading out evenly and one thick layer of topcoat was adequate to tame this with only subtle texture.

Rating:  somewhere between 2 and 3 stars out of 5 right now.  The formula is surprisingly easy to work with for something so packed with glitter, and works great if undies are used to build opacity.  Beware that this is old-skool glitter, though, and serious scrubbing is needed for removal.  The bleeding glitter is likely not done - someone posted a recent swatch photo that had the base distinctly yellow, not merely cream/vanilla, and if it gets to that point, I'll be tossing this one.

Where to buy:  though this was an LE, it's still very readily available on Amazon or ebay.  Be aware, though that because this was made just the once by China Glaze, any bottle you buy will very likely be affected by the base color change to some degree.
