Vapid Lacquer La Fae Verte

Suzy came to stay for a delightful long weekend quarantine bubble-merge of board games & comedy TV, so two things happened right away.  1) Star Trek was on hold in favor of treasured human interaction and 2) I was pretty instantly smitten with her neon green sparkle polish.

Neons are most certainly not my jam, and I own vanishingly few greens that lean prominently yellow, so the super bright one she had on wasn't replicatable with my stash.  The closest I could come up with was Vapid La Fae Verte, about 3 notches darker but with the same fiery aurora shimmer.

La Fae Verte is an apple/spring green jelly sheer enough to let the sparkle of the aurora pigment show through easily.  This also means it needs many coats to get there, and unfortunately there is no cheat for that.  In an effort to brighten the base color and cut down on coats needed for the right look, I started with a layer of white crème, then 2 thick layers of La Fae.  This really didn't work out as planned: IRL it still looked a little streaky and the coats I used were so thick I had fine bubbling on some nails.  With each coat, it got a little deeper/darker, though, so I stopped here anyway, and in bright sunlight it does look smashing.

As with other 230 or Aurora polishes in this color range, the shimmer tends to appear more coppery bronze than actually red in direct light, but it still hits a saturated emerald flash at angles (above).

Rating:  3 out of 5 stars.  I've debated destashing this color because I was suspicious about ever using it... but it is truly unique in my stash and I think deserves another shot.  The second go-around will be worn solo, though, with very thin coats, to give a more accurate impression.

Where to buy:  this was a single batch from Vapid, though she's brought back some old faves in the past, so keep an eye out in the facebook fan group as well as in destashes.
