Since Shape of Water somehow magically pulled off an Oscar win, and the one nail I had done it this color just wasn't enough...

Shleee has released more than a few polishes in the past couple of months with "aurora" or "unicorn" pigments in them - in polish land, we're mostly all interpreting these as having a similar color shift to the "unicorn pee" in Clarins 230 and her sister shimmers. This particular iteration is a deep sapphire bordering on navy blue, packed with both aurora shifty shimmer and very tiny ultrachrome microflakies.

The overall effect is that the blue gets darkened down to nearly navy, while the red flash of the shimmers pulls the base color more violet. And then at angles, that red shifts over to emerald green, which is of course what always makes me swoon.

The flakies are more of the pink-to-green sort, so they compliment and offset the red-to-emerald shimmers rather than exactly match them. It's a lovely sparkly effect, without being overly busy-looking.

Bright light isn't required to have this polish look good; she does just fine in lower light as well, picking up edges of the opposite shimmer colors or letting the flakies shine more.

This was a popular enough color that the first run sold out. This 2.0 version apparently has smaller flakes than the original, but the same base color and shimmers.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. A nice formula that got to the opacity you see here in 2 coats - more would have maybe evened the edges out a little, but of course also darkened the base color a bit more, and I liked it blue rather than midnight. This wore like a jelly, with edgewear noticeable after about 2 days, but dark colors do always show edgewear more starkly.
Where to buy: you know the story with Shleee - usually one batch and done. Stalk destashes & blog sales, and keep an eye on her social media for announcements of new colors.
