Femme Fatale Death March

As with my usual urge to yo-yo to something really different than what I wore before, after the bright and sunny pastel of my last mani, it was time for deep and dark.

I have a huge love of shifty polishes, that's no surprise at all.  And while I'm at it, anything shifting to green anywhere along the spectrum is a fave.  This right here hits all my buttons, and, well, just look at that shift!

Femme Fatale released Death March as an "oops" a year and change ago, and I can't for the life of me figure out what it was supposed to be, quite possibly because these boo-boo batches keep getting extra goodies added to them until they are saleably beautiful.  It's a deeply vampy eggplant purple jelly base, loaded with aurora shimmer that shifts from red to green, then dusted with small round holo glitters.

In direct light, Death March is a wine- or fuchsia-tinged purple, with a gorgeous metallic shimmer overlay.  At any angles, though, the aurora shimmer goes quickly from bronze to green.

And in bright light, those holo glitters explode into sparkling rainbows, while in lower light, they're iridescent micro-pearls sitting on top of the dark color.

The end result is that you get the kind of shift where you stare at your nails at stoplights and in different lighting conditions to see how the shimmer + the base + these little glitters are playing off each other in that moment.

The formula was a touch thick, but in a way that meant it stayed exactly where I put it with no pooling, and needed only 2 coats for total opacity.

While Death March is vampy to the point of being blackened around the edges in some light, it was never just black.  Even in low light, the shimmer has enough subtly metallic sheen to look like taffeta satin, while in bright light it just glows.

Rating:  4 out of 5 stars.  This is a stunning color, and while I have plenty of purple-to-green shifty polishes (this iridescent starling feather thing is a major fave), this one is still a standout.  The only flaw was that the easy to work with thickness of the formula meant I had a couple of chips in less than 2 days.  Ah well, the opacity meant tip fixes were quick and easy.

Where to buy:  oops batches are accidents, so one and done, with no chance of a repeat.  Keep an eye out for blog sales & destashes, this one is well worth hunting down.
