Starlight Polish Unicorn Tears

The holidays being behind us doesn't mean festive stuff has to get put away, and for some reason I was reminded of a lovely purple that had languished for a good while on Mount Untried...

Starlight Polish released Unicorn Tears as part of her original trio of mythological beast-themed shimmery polishes.  Though her toppers later became the big draw, all 3 of these are really beautiful and well worth looking into!

Unicorn Tears is a sheer, dusty blue-based purple jelly base liberally filled with a green-to-blue "UP sister" shimmer - note that she named these polishes several years before calling the magic stuff in clarins 230 "unicorn pee" was a thing, so in her store everything labeled Unicorn is this particle.

This shimmer starts as a saturated emerald in direct lighting, only very slightly blue-leaning (the bottle shot up top captures that best).  Once you start tilting your fingers, it goes past turquoise (above) and to a deep smoldering cobalt blue (below) that makes the whole polish look like a glowy eggplant shade.

This is very much a jelly polish, and it took 4 coats to reach opacity - normally, I'd be iffy on 4 coats, but look at that shimmer depth below - very well worth it!  I had smooth, even coverage at each layer, without the streakiness on the first couple of coats that can be a thing for a lot of jellies, so If you wanted to use this as a topper that would work out just fine.

Rating:  a very nice 4 out of 5 stars.  Unicorn Tears wore very well, with only subtle edgewear visible after 3 days despite some serious kitchen cleaning.  It's versatile enough to us as a topper, and perfectly lovely on its own, so those 4 coats are totally worth it.

Where to buy:  direct from Starlight & Sparkles
